Bariatric Surgery and Lipoedema , Guy Slater MBBS, FRCS
Guy Slater was appointed as an NHS consultant surgeon in 2004, specialising in lapa-roscopic gastro-intestinal surgery and weight loss surgery. Guy is based at Streamline Surgical it aims to deliver safe, effective obesity surgery for NHS and private patients. They are committed to providing the highest quality of surgical care with the latest and safest techniques available. Working together Shaw Somers and Guy Slater are Streamline's founding partners. Their experience of over a thousand obesity operations is unsurpassed in the UK. Together they run the UK's largest NHS bariatric surgery unit, looking after all obese patients no matter how big or how unwell they might be.
Guy has published widely in the field of Upper Gastro-intestinal surgery including eight bariatric publications written with George Fielding. He is often invited to lecture to other healthcare professionals on bariatric surgery. He joins Shaw Somers for the third series of the Fat Doctor and has previously appeared on TV in “Fat boy to Slim” and radio with in Dr Mark Porter’s Radio 4 medical program “Casenotes”.
Guy Slater recently spoke about bariatric or weight loss surgery at "The Big Meet" in Leeds. He is interested in the role that weight loss surgery may play in lipoedema which remains unproven. Guy specialisies in laparoscopic gastro-intestinal surgery and weight loss surgery. He has an NHS practice at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester and The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow, North West London. He practices privately in Chichester, Guildford and London.
Guy specialised in weight loss surgery in 2003, when he spent a year working in Brisbane, Australia with Dr George Fielding, one of the World's foremost bariatric surgeons. In 2006 with Shaw Somers, Guy formed Streamline Surgical, a company that specialises in weight loss surgery. Guy has a personal experience in excess of 1200 procedures and specialises in laparoscopic adjustable gastric band surgery, laparoscopic roux en-Y gastric bypass surgery and revision bariatric surgery.
